Fringe Season 4 Poster
This is awesome! I love how the image is all shattered with both versions of Olivia/Bolivia and Walter/Walternate mixed together. The Observers blended in is a great touch also. I had a feeling that they would be a focus this season.

TV Line: The Two Walters
Fringe As Season 3 came to a close, Walter and Walternate weren’t in a room together for but a minute before they started hurling accusations at each other. Such banter between the alters will continue when the new episodes arrive. “Oh, they’re always cross with each other,” John Noble told me, two episodes into filming. “And the thing about having an argument with yourself is you can take the gloves off, and that’s what they’ll be doing — abusing each other. But ultimately they’ll have to resolve their issues.” As they address the mystery of their conjoined worlds, who will prove to be the smarter of the two? Sure, Walter lost some years in the bin, but his counterpart hasn’t exactly been chained to a lab Over There. “Walternate’s a pretty sharp dude,” says Noble, “but maybe he’s not on top of the science like Walter.”

TV Addict: FRINGE Spoiler Alert: John Noble Teases Why the Peter Bishop Fans Have Come to Know and Love May Be Gone Forever!

Since the moment the credits rolled on FRINGE’s phenomenal third season finale one question has been on every fan’s mind. That question — no, not how on earth the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to fail to recognize John Noble with a much deserved Emmy nod — but rather where is Peter Bishop?
“Because we finished off with the season so powerfully what you’ll see now is thread in through a mini arc of four episodes,” explained John Noble during a one-on-one with the the TV Addict in Los Angeles. “We thread in the feeling, the presence of and finally the manifestation of Peter.”
And while it probably won’t come as much of a surprise that Peter does in fact return, (Joked Noble, “Josh [Jackson] is our leading man of course he does [return!]“) what sure as heck will is that Peter’s reappearance may not mark the return of the Peter fans (Not to mention the two Olivias!) have come to know and love over the course of the past three seasons.
“What we do is find a way to bring Peter back in…. but not in the way he was before,” revealed Noble. “It’s grand for Josh because it gives him a chance to finally do another version of himself, which he hasn’t had before. So it’s a great pay off for Josh and it means that we get to rebuild somehow in a different way.”
But just how different will be Peter Bishop 2.0 (Peternate?) be? Noble, not surprisingly, was playing coy. To the point that the only thing he would tease is that the start of FRINGE’s fourth season will be eerily familiar to fans of the show who has stuck with it since day one.
“That wonderful humanizing element that we’ve had in FRINGE of Walter and Peter getting to know and love each other again and build up their relationship… we start the season without that,” said Noble. “”[When the season starts] Walter is still in the lab but he’s quite insane, agoraphobic, obsessive compulsive and under the guardianship of Olivia and Astrid. He’s just locked in and won’t go out of the lab, so that’s an interesting restart from my point of view.”

Digital Spy: 'Fringe' John Noble hints at Walter fate

Fringe star John Noble has revealed that his character Walter will struggle with insanity once again next season.
In the Fox sci-fi drama, Walter regained some of his faculties with help from son Peter (Joshua Jackson), but Peter was erased from history in the third season finale.
Noble explained: "Walter came out of that [psychiatric] hospital three seasons ago, and he was... pretty insane. [But if] he didn't have Peter to help him, he'd still be insane, so initially I think we'll see that."
He continued: "[Walter will] still work for Olivia and he'll still be brilliant, but he doesn't have that lovely softening element of a family."
However, Noble insisted that Peter will eventually return to restore the show's status quo, despite Joshua Jackson's recent claim that he had not returned to filming on Fringe.
"It's not going to last forever," Noble said. "We can't live without Josh Jackson!"

Comic-Con 2011 Fringe Panel
I rushed and got in line for the Fringe Panel and got in to the previous Vampire Diaries Panel and then was able to make it up closer when that panel ended.
The Fringe Panel was awesome, I got into the Q & A line at the beginning and they started like always with a clip real that highlighted all of the main characters. Then all of them came out, the two main showrunners Jeff Pinkner & JH Wyman, along with Anna Torv (Olivia), John Noble(Walter), Lance Reddick (Broyles), Blair Brown (Nina), Jasika Nicole (Astrid) and Seth Gabel (Lincoln Lee) (who is becoming a full time cast member.)
John Noble said: “You guys are the best fans that ever existed, thank you from all of us very sincerely”. Pinkner & Wyman said “We’ve got to address the elephant in the room. Somebody’s not here — Gene booked milk commercial.” They spoke about how they decided to let go of Joshua Jackson them because of how expensive he was so they had auditions for a new actor to play Peter and they showed a clip of auditions Fringe Audition Tape: Rebecca Mader, Damon Lindelof, Michael Emerson, Greg Grunberg, Jeff Probst, Jorge Garcia and many others in [Peter Bishop] audition video.
J.H. Wyman said “There is no Peter. He doesn’t exist.” Joshua Jackson enters panel. Wearing Observer suit and fedora. Anna Torv asked If Peter doesn’t exist, is there a child? Pinkner said “I’m not sure we’ve seen all of Olivia’s powers yet. What’s going to happen is really hard to answer because we think it would spoil letting the show unfold.” Lance Reddick was asked to impersonate William Bell which was very funny. Joshua teases Lance about the impersonation and Lance replies “You don’t exist anymore so stop talking”John Noble has a soft spot for Walternate, he could understand why he would do what he did and the justifications. Josh Jackson later jokes with John Noble: “You shot my wife in the head!
Seth Gabel says he’s more like Over Here Lincoln. Joshua asked about whether he wishes that he had an alternate. Jackson enjoyed free time not having to play an alt-Peter, however S4 will take him to a different arena. “I don’t think Peter will ever have an alternate, but however he gets folded back into the story, it will be a very different version than what we’ve seen before. He’s in a different place now.” Jasika Nicole was asked something that she didn’t want to answer and started singing “Astrid has a gun”.
Pinkner/Wyman said “What’s been great about flashback episodes is that it’s deepened the emotions of these characters” / “We’ve loved them as well and it’s our intent to keep doing that. We’ll always go back and forward if it suits the story and the things we are trying to get across.” John Noble: “Walter and Nina have an affair in Season 5.” Joshua Jackson screams, “Mommmy!” (I got about 4 people away from the microphone when they cut the line off.)
The Cast then turn to ask the audience trivia questions for "Save Peter" T-Shirt prizes. Jasika asks: What type of sandwich did Walter make for Astrid when she was trying to crack the code in season three? Cucumber, avocado, cheese and tortilla chips. Anna Torv asks what color was Walter’s suit that he got married in. Purple. John Noble asks: Roscoe (Christofer Lloyd) was keyboard player in a band. What other instrument did he play on record cover? Drums. Blair Brown: “What did Peter promise Nina in equestrian ring in S1?” He would owe her a favor. The Panel swag was a luggage tag with a changeing picture on the front with the two Olivia’s on one side and the two Walters on the other with a disappearing and reappearing Peter in the middle. It said on the back “If found in this Universe or the other side, please contact:" with lines to fill out your address.

'Fringe' John Noble confirms series 'reset'

Fringe star John Noble has confirmed that the show will "reset" when it returns for a fourth season.
The actor previously suggested that the Fringe writing team might "give [the show] a restart" following the disappearance of Peter (Joshua Jackson).
Noble told TV Line: "All I know is that [the show] will do a reset, and that [the writers] are really excited."
He continued: "I know that they have about nine episodes in a sort of package [to begin the season]."
Noble, who plays both Walter Bishop and his doppelganger Walternate on the sci-fi drama, also suggested that his two characters will be forced to work together in future episodes.
"It doesn't make sense for them not to, ultimately," he said. "But it won't be easy."
Noble recently admitted that he expects Fringe to run for five seasons, but added that he would be "surprised" if the show continued beyond that point.
The fourth season of Fringe will premiere on Fox on September 23.

'Fringe' stars talk past, present & future

Last night Anna Torv & John Noble were honored by The Paley Center for Media as the organization presented An Evening with "Fringe" -- where the stars talked to a rapt room full of actors and show devotees about their experiences on Fox's sci-fi phenomenon.
But before they took the stage, Anna & John exclusively talked to PopWrap about the season three finale, what they think it means for their characters and where they hope things go in season four!
PopWrap: Congratulations on a truly incredible season finale -- what did you think of it?
John Noble: I loved it. The script was evolving as we were doing it too – in particular, the ending with Peter evaporating. That was kind of a light thought that came in at one point and just made everyone say, “whoa.” But scripts often evolve like that, especially as they built the trilogy of episodes at the end of this season. So many things were happening, it was kind of mind boggling and very exciting, but kind of insane.
PW: Do you understand what happened?
Anna Torv: I do, but I’m not quite sure where it’s going.
John: At a psychological level, I absolutely understand it. For Walter/Walternate, I see them as the same man, so psychologically, I do understand. In dreams this happens, in other mental states this happens. So it doesn’t concern me that we do a literal representation that’s in another mind dimension, we all have those things.
PW: What excites you about the potential this universe bridge opens up for season four?
Anna: So much! I don’t know for sure, we haven't talked to the showrunners yet, but I would think this obviously means her baby doesn’t exist. I'm also curious to the concept of, "How much pain has Peter caused Olivia over the last three seasons?" Now, who is she without ever having experienced that? What kind of shifts will the characters make without Peter in our lives? But simultaneously how are we going to find him?
PW: I would imagine it also means you'll be playing both versions of your characters a lot more next year.
John: I think so too, and that is such a gift as an actor.
Anna: I love it. I’m also excited because we seen a lot of interaction between the characters, which we will now that they’re in the same world. Also, with Lincoln too! I know Seth [Gabel] is coming back!
John: Oh, he's so great!
Anna: It’ll be fun to see him on both sides as well.
PW: That could get messy for Fauxlivia!
John: Well she hasn’t committed to him yet!
Anna: That’s true! Maybe Olivia will get her back and date Lincoln! She needs some love too [laughs].
PW: Tonight is all about the actorly part of "Fringe" and obviously these dual performances are an excellent example of that. How have you approached it?
John: I’ve always seen these characters as the psychological parts of the same man. It’s that melding together – now the pressure is on enough that they have to stop compromising and come together. Because, and this is my personal opinion, but to survive this situation, this man needs to be his very best and that’s a combination of Walter and Walternate. That’s the approach I’m taking to it and it seems to be working. But we'll know for sure on Thursday, when we talk to the showrunners about season four.
PW: Oh man, you know that fans are going to be stalking your life on Friday now!
Anna: [laughs]
John: They’ll tell us just enough to keep us tantalized – that’s what they do.
PW: What are you hoping to talk about?
Anna: In that last speech where Peter talked about who brought the parts back – Astrid or Ella – I’m interested in that. I wonder if we’ll do more back and forth with the future.
John: I’m excited to continue with the different universes, I like that they’re going to work together. That’s always something we’ve wanted to do – not show a black and white world. This way you don’t automatically choose one side. We work really hard to humanize both sides.
PW: Back to the alternates, do you prefer playing one more than the other?
John: I do. I enjoy Walter more because he’s so random. And as an actor, that means I can do whatever I want and get away with it, whereas Walternate is so stitched up. Walter is a lot more fun.
Anna: It changes, I vacillate. When Faux-livia first came about I was thrilled not to be in the suit, but then I played Olivia Over There and I loved her during that period. It changes.
PW: Favorite episode this season?
John: I loved the one with Christopher Lloyd. It was such a joy to work with him and he was so good in the role.
Anna: I actually think “Entrada” – I enjoyed that because I had so much fun stuff to do,. You’re always biased towards things like that. It was my favorite episode to make, I don’t know how it would be watching it.
PW: And lastly, this show has really lived and died by the fans -- a very fickle community, it should be said. What kinds of comments have you been hearing from fans?
Anna: One of the things I love about doing the show is that anyone who stops me on the street, always asks “what’s happening next?” To be a part of something that’s bigger than you is fun because it means that the show you're making is the star.
John: That’s true. When people stop me on the street, it’s so generous and then “what do you know?” [laughs]. We have incredible fans.

TV Line: Fringe‘s Time Warp

To date, John Noble has been tasked with playing Walter, Walternate and younger versions of each. But as glimpsed in the promo for the season finale airing Friday, he has added Future Walter and Walternate to his repertoire – the former of which seems to have regressed to the disoriented incarnation first visited in the series pilot. “There’s a variation [on one of my characters] that you’ll see in the finale that did affect my concentration, my mood,” the actor shares. Speaking of the sure-to-be-freaky season-ender, Noble suggests that the “6:02″ time that was critical to the April 22 episode will come into play again during the Fox drama’s closing hour. “That time frame is very important to remember as we get to the finale,” he teases. To date, John Noble has been tasked with playing Walter, Walternate and younger versions of each. But as glimpsed in the promo for the season finale airing Friday, he has added Future Walter and Walternate to his repertoire – the former of which seems to have regressed to the disoriented incarnation first visited in the series pilot. “There’s a variation [on one of my characters] that you’ll see in the finale that did affect my concentration, my mood,” the actor shares. Speaking of the sure-to-be-freaky season-ender, Noble suggests that the “6:02″ time that was critical to the April 22 episode will come into play again during the Fox drama’s closing hour. “That time frame is very important to remember as we get to the finale,” he teases. Fringe Exclusive: Deadwood's Brad Dourif Saddles Up for Season Finale
April 5, 2011 08:44 AM PDT Matt Webb Mitovich A key role for Fringe‘s Season 3 finale has been cast — and as with everything on the Fox series, there’s a bit of a twist involved. Fringe Countdown Teaser: What Happens at 6:02 AM?! Brad Dourif, whom many of you remember as Deadwood‘s Doc Cochran, has been tapped to play a mysterious character named Moreau in the sure-to-be-intense Fringe finale airing Friday, May 6. The wrinkle is that the original casting breakdown for this character specifically sought a “well-known Japanese actor … who speaks English” to fill the role. Dourif is not a Japanese actor, at least not a well-known one. He is, however, known for bringing chills to the big screen, where his long resume includes Eyes of Laura Mars, the voice of Chucky in that series of fright films and, most recently, the sheriff in Rob Zombie’s recent run of Halloween redos. He also of note played The Lord of the Rings‘ Wormtongue, and since Fringe fave John Noble was Denethor (as TVLine reader Jeff points out), we may have a bit of a Middle-earth reunion on our hands. Welcome back, Fringe! Our fave freaky-deaky sci-fi series is back with an all-new episode this Friday, and to celebrate, we talked to guest star Alan Ruck about the floaty weird goings-on.
Floaty-what, you say? Oh, did we not mention that this episode features flying people? And who's Alan Ruck, you ask? He's Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, silly!

Alan told us that producers had him in mind for this particular part: "I got the role in the nicest possible way. They called up and said, 'Do you want to do this?' That happens from time to time and it's wonderful." So who exactly is he playing? "He is no dummy, he's an aeronautical engineer, and he stumbled on to something and he is trying to figure out a way to use it. Ultimately he would like to use it for good, but in so doing he causes a lot of damage. So I guess you could say, he's obsessed. And this particular point in time where the episode of Fringe starts, time is fleeting and he's just…under the gun."
And how exactly does this aeronautical engineer come to the attention of Fringe Division? "Well, I don't want to give too much away," says Ruck, "But there are some people who are messing around with some chemical compounds that apparently make human beings lighter than air. I wind up doing some very bad things, sort of for the right reasons. Some things I am doing are less than legal and certainly less than ethical and maybe depending on your world view immoral."
That immoral behavior (and let's face it, he's got to be doing something horrible; this is Fringe) gets him up close and personal with our fave three investigators: Joshua Jackson's Peter Bishop, John Noble's Walter Bishop and, of course, Anna Torv's Olivia Dunham. Ruck says, "Yes, [I work] at a distance with Anna, she puts my brakes on at one point, and then I worked with Josh and John in another scene. I was very up-close with John, Josh was hanging back in that scene, but I had dialogue with John. They are great people. I met Josh over the years at different places at events and stuff, but I never met John or Anna before, and they're wonderful. I had a really good time performing with John; he is a great guy."
So will our new friend be back to cause more mischief on a future episode of Fringe? Ruck says, "I think not. I think...truly not. Technically yes [he could come back], but probably not."

Exclusive: Fringe gets a Back to the Future Shock!

Great Scott! Back to the Future's Doc Brown will be meeting Fringe's resident Doctor Frankenstein when Christopher Lloyd guest stars early next year as Walter's musical hero.
"We all know how much Walter loves music, right? Well this fellow was one of his icons," explains John Noble of Lloyd's role in the season's 10th episode. "He adored this man. So Walter gets to be a bit of a fanboy."
Lloyd, who is currently enjoying a resurgence thanks to the 25th anniversary of Future, begins filming next week in Vancouver and will appear in the show's 10th episode. And while there remains a Fringe-ian veil of secrecy surrounding his actual involvement in the hour's investigation, it's very clear that Nobel is excited to have Marty McFly's bestie coming aboard. "It's a beautiful role and such good casting," he enthuses. "When I read the script I thought 'I hope hey get someone great.' And Christopher Lloyd exceeds my expectations!"

“The Box” Episode Review or the shape of things to come by Paul Burrows
While I really liked last week’s episode “Olivia” I really loved this weeks “The Box” and one of the main reasons was that we got to see kooky Walter again and his interactions with Peter and Astrid. Another reason this episode was so great was being able to see Bolivia in action and her true colors along with Peter being manipulated into building the doomsday device.
During the funeral scene and beforehand it really felt like Nina actually knew that Walter would be the new head of Massive Dynamic. I’m excited to see them transition into that role of working together and tolerating each other. The best thing about it is that we will be able to find out new secrets about Massive Dynamic and if it’s really such an evil company. Speaking of hints of things to come William Bell in his will mentions a friend named Isaac “My great friend Isaac once said, life is joy, death is peace. It's transition that's difficult. I was not a man of many friends, but if I'd had hundreds, I would still cherish the two of you most. Nina, I was your right hand, and you were mine. For the many hours we spent exploring the impossible, a small thank you. And for the precious few we had alone in Tuscany, a memento of me. Walter, we gather knowledge faster than we gather wisdom. By now I trust you have ample reserves of both. I hope you've forgiven me.” That’s probably not the last time that we’ll hear his name again since the Fringe writers like to slip things in way in advance for a later pay off. I noticed that Nina received the bell that William Bell rang when Olivia had her first meeting with him in one of the still standing alternate World Trade Towers in the season 1 finale. It was also great how Walter walked past a room with a transporter and it was making the Star Trek sound.
The other great thing about this episode was the moment where Walter tries to tell Peter his side of the story; something really needs to be done to convince the Emmy voters to nominate John Nobles. It was heartbreaking to watch Walter in that moment. This also spawned another thing with the developing friendship between Walter & Astrid; it was very sweet to see how now that Walter couldn’t lean on Peter or Olivia for emotional support she was there for him and how she pushed him to do necessary things. Some are saying that it might be more, but with all of the farting, brain licking, calling her Aspirin and other crazy things that Walter did in just that episode it would be a major stretch to believe that. It’s more of a familial type friendship and it’s nice to see that.
This episode was also very telling because we saw a Bolivia who is starting to be very minorly conflicted. She asserted her dominance over Newton, but when she had to shoot the deaf guy there was the tiniest bit of hesitation. So it will be interesting watching her while she tries to influence Peter & Walter to work on the device and possibly become influenced herself and then Newton trying to take back the leadership from her. Another thing that is great is from next weeks trailer it looks like the Alternate stories will be the normal Freak/Monster/Pattern of the week and that the normal world episodes will be the search for another piece to the device. Kind of the same as usual, but I like the twist to things. As for The Observer sighting you can see the back of him walking down the stairs as Newton is leaving the Box in the subway.

E! Kristen: Gasp! Is Fringe's Walternate Actually a Good Guy? John Noble Sure Thinks So Today

As far as we've always known, Fringe's Walternate is an evil genius, and original-flavor Walter is a big ol' softy. But what if that's not really the case? We just caught up with the incomparable John Noble and chatted about tonight's season-three premiere, why Walternate is actually "good" (whaaa?!)—and while we were at it, we kinda wrote the plot for season four together:
"Walternate is a good man," John gushed about his alter ego. "He's saving his world. If our world was disintegrating, we'd want someone to step up; that's truly what Walternate does."
Kind of makes you think, right? "He's cold and manipulative and wounded, so all those things when you first meet him make you think he's a hard man," continues John. "But he has reason to be. Someone stole his son, for goodness sake. I'd be furious. I have some affection for Walternate, even though he's not a crowd favorite."
True, the inclusion of Walternate into the world of Fringe has been a difficult one for fans to accept, and it obviously hasn't gone unnoticed. But John actually believes that unease may benefit season three.
"We've got to play on both sides, which is the radical change to this season," he explained. "And I want to see the audience's response to us playing two universes. If we can do it [right], it'll be magical. The characters on the other side are going to have to make themselves likable."
And here's where things get interesting: John has his own plans for the future of Fringe. A plan that involves peace and love and the coming together of both Walters.
Laughs John: "What's got to happen is that there has to be peace made. If this breach is indestructible, what if the two great minds of each world got together and said, 'We know how to fix it.' They could. And if we want a fourth season, they better. I just thought of this! Wouldn't it be cool if Walter and Walternate put their heads together and said 'Let's do this'?"
So cool! And a coming together of the two worlds wouldn't mark the end of the show, because as John puts it: "What about all the other universes that we haven't even looked at? There are many things to discover. We've still got to work out how many men Nina has slept with!"
See? Lots more Fringe to come if we just give Walternate a fair shot.
Love him or hate him, Walternate and the Fringe gang are back tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox, and you need to be there.

John Noble defends 'Fringe' science

Fringe star John Noble has defended the credibility of the science featured on the show.
Speaking in an official Fox video, the actor insisted that many of the storylines featured on the drama were based on real science.
He said: "It's scientifically proven that there are things within our brain capacity [like] telepathy. We can do all these things, it's just that we're not refined enough. This is not really mysterious."
"I think what we're talking about now as being science fiction, [in] ten years time will be on everyone's iPod," he continued. "It's the way change is happening."
Noble also dismissed the suggestion that viewers might struggle to understand the show's complex science.
"[Viewers] don't have to understand all the science," he argued. "I don't understand it all, but it doesn't mean to say we can't go with the flow. We don't have to underestimate our audiences. If we act well enough and tell the stories well enough, then people will come for the ride, I think."
The third season of Fringe begins September 23 on Fox.
